Send a letter to notify the company of your intention to boycott it. You can use this text as a basis for your letter.
To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing to notify you that I am boycotting products from Shell in order to support a cause that I believe is extremely important. Currently, there is a genocide taking place in Darfur, Sudan. Thousands of people are dying each month. I believe it is imperative that we stop this genocide.
Whether knowingly or unknowingly, your company is supporting this genocide. Your company is working with PetroChina (China National Petroleum Corp.) to jointly develop natural gas fields in China. China is a major investor in the Sudan oil fields, via its China National Petroleum Corp. In addition, China is on the United Nations Security Council, and has resisted the Security Council’s taking stronger action in Sudan.
I will be boycotting Shell gasoline, motor oil, and other automotive products until your company takes the following actions:
- Withdraws from all partnerships with PetroChina/China Natural Petroleum Corp.
- Publicly and strongly encourages CNPC to urge the People’s Republic of China to take action to stop the genocide in Darfur, via the UN Security Council.
- Sends a letter or otherwise informs the President of the United States, the United States Congress, and the United Nations Security Council that you want them to declare that genocide is taking place in Sudan and that they must invoke Chapter 7 of the United Nations charter and send in a multinational force to stop the genocide.
Once you have taken these actions or the UN Security Council has invoked Chapter 7 of the UN Charter, I will happily begin purchasing your products again. I know that this is an issue that you likely care deeply about, as well. I am sure you will take appropriate actions to help stop the genocide in Sudan.
Thank you.
